Ice-Hole-Fishing
When you don’t have any money anymore to go to the shop you will have to go on the ice to catch some fish! A couple of weeks ago I went Ice-hole-fishing with some friends on a frozen (of course) river/lake nearby. We did it for the experience and because it’s a really typical Finnish thing to do. Some real Finnish die-hard fishermen showed us how it’s done.
After a couple of hours staring at a hole the fishermen invited us to check out the traps and cages with them. We sure had a bunch of fish!
Here we had the chance to kill, unskin, prepare and wash the fish ourselves!
(we recommend you to do this in this order)
A Belgian friend from my building did a very good job:
Ofcousre we could take the fish home. I was invited in their apartment, two floors higher, for a delightful dinner with a fresh-caught halibut with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the menu.
It was actually pretty delicious (for a first try)!
